Procedures

Endoscopy and Procedures

Gastroscopy, colonoscopy, and related diagnostic procedures are offered as part of specialist gastroenterology assessment. The emphasis is on selecting the right test for the right clinical question, offering prompt access where appropriate, and ensuring that findings are communicated clearly.

Gastroscopy

Gastroscopy is used to assess reflux, upper abdominal symptoms, iron deficiency, coeliac disease, and swallowing difficulties.

Colonoscopy

Colonoscopy is arranged for bowel cancer screening, positive faecal occult blood testing, rectal bleeding, altered bowel habit, iron deficiency, surveillance after previous polyps, and assessment of suspected inflammatory bowel disease. Open-access pathways are available.

Open-access gastroscopy and colonoscopy can be arranged when the indication is straightforward. Procedures are performed through St Vincent's Private Hospital, Epworth Freemasons, Hobsons Bay Day Procedure Centre, with prior consultation when the diagnostic question is broader or second-opinion input is needed.
